Sprout Right Book Launch- Nutrition from Tummy to Toddler & Book Giveaway!

 I was invited to the Sprout Right book launch last night and since we don't have any family here to babysit (all in Winnipeg) nor do I want to bother our friends with "Can you babysit?" I came with my over rambunctious, cheery, happy, tot.  I let him run loose as Lianne gave me the okay and my night did not stop, thankfully there were other children, okay three, two of them being Lianne's.  I was chasing after him all night... Yes people, that was me. I am Mama Ash and that was Charlie.  As you can see above when Charlie finally got tired out he had to look through our copy of Sprout Right: Nutrition from Tummy to Toddler.  It was a packed event and only managed to get a couple of snippets of pictures as the guests were arriving.

Now enough about me.  I must tell you about about the guest of honour from last nights event, Lianne Phillipson-Webb.  She is the amazing, smart, beautiful mom, nutritionist and owner of her company Sprout Right and now she can add author to her title.

Sprout Right was started with her passion for good food and good health for mom and baby.  She offers personalized one-on-one consultations to address mom’s concerns for you or baby's individual nutritional needs.  If you prefer being in a group Sprout Right does workshops that  cover topics like introducing your baby to solids, making homemade baby food and what to do after puree.

This book is a must have for all new moms as it takes you into prenatal diet with what foods to eat to establish giving baby the best quality of  milk.  She also covers post partum foods and nutrients for you to eat and take to help restore your body.

It is my new favorite and trusted must have resource for all moms.

I like that you can add spices and herbs to the baby's food. In fact, our pediatrician told us the same thing!He said that baby's taste less than adults do so don't be afraid of the spice rack.

My favorite tip is to mix it up and try different combinations of foods so as to not get stuck in a rut. Great advice as my 6 month old is on a sweet potato spree right now. Tomorrow we're going to try something new with her old favorite! :)

My favorite tip is to eat/serve organic foods. I don't get organics all the time (bc of cost) for hubby and I, but for my boys, I won't get anything else! :)

My fave tip was

Introduce solids at six months of age or when they show signs of being ready

I like the fact that she says to introduce when the baby shows signs of being ready. I have 3 girls ages 12,8 and 6 months so it has been a while since "introducing" solids to them. I was so hung up on not introducing cereals until 6 months old with my newest baby, until i realized just how attentive she was when i was eating something. At 5 months old she received her first taste of solids.

I'm sure i have a tonne to learn or re-learn when it comes to her. But I'm ready willing and capable.

This is my favourite tip. My heritage is Indian and I have a little whole-wheat baby so I wasn't sure if he would like the spices. But as soon as I made daal and my husband fed him... he was like a little robin with his mouth wide open looking for the next bite. Spices it is.

I like the tip of using organic, We are just starting out on our organic eating. This is our sixth baby and she is just four months old. So I would love to win this book. I am wanting to make her food for her. With all the scary things I have been hearing about different things in the popular baby foods it just makes sence to make your own!

"Continue breast-feeding for as long as you are able to (at least 1 year, but age 2 is even better!)" is my favourite tip from Lianne. I feel that it is important for me to nurse my little man to at least 2 years. He has some pretty serious food allergies and I feel much better knowing that I am filling in the 'gaps' in his diet with my milk. I think I would feel pretty stressed out about his diet if he wasn't still nursing.

This is odd - someone just mentioned this book to me yesterday and then I saw your note about your contest - so I figured, what the heck!

As for my favorite tip/strategy: Make new variations of favourite foods including the not so favourite foods. Try not to get stuck on the same foods.

This worked for me with chicken - not so keen on it. But I tried a chicken and apple mix and voila! She was much happier.
