TAMING THE TODDLER
By Nanny Robina
What ever happened to the terrible twos? Did any one notice that it may not have gone by almost unnoticed? Are you thinking, “your baby sailed through it and you’re so lucky you didn’t have to deal with it?”
Well get real moms it’s on its way! The terrible twos is not always two it seems. It is more likely to make an appearance between three and four.
So stand guard and be armed with a stern look firm voice and action!
Toddler taming is about understanding and taking control of your toddler’s actions, with compassion patience and the right way to handle and defuse the tantrums they bring.
My tips for Toddler Taming
1) Try to head off a tantrum before it starts “ Oh look what I see out the window” your toddler has now stopped to see what your looking at, “ Oh dear you missed it” Distracted for a full second and now the tantrum has been forgotten and its passed.
2) The tantrum is now full blown, take time out as right now there is no reasoning, try not to address this behaviour as children of any age thrive on attention be it negative or positive. Make sure your child is safe, stay near by but go about your way as if nothing is happening. Allow you child to have their melt down then sit and chat about the tantrum and behaviour. Do point out that this behaviour is not acceptable. Suggest next time he take time out in quite place to vent, and then he can leave the grumpy head behind and come back with a happy head!
3) This is a part of growing up it will pass quickly with a little guidance. Monitor the times after a long day hunger and tiredness will bring most to a melt down.
4) Never make an idle threat. It will come back to bite you in the butt!
5) Always handle this time with patience and understanding. If this is not possible take a time out for your self. Go sit and have a cuppa!

Thanks for this post! I have been having such a hard time with my older son, who will be 2 in August, with his temper and orneriness! It's exhausting... :( But the advise in this post is going to be great! I don't think I'm going to have to wait too long to put it in action... :p
