What do you think when stainless steel comes to mind?
How about great dishes for kids that are BPA free, PVC free, free of lead/toxins, durability, reusable, safe and eco.  At least in Mama Ashs' head; that's what she thinks.
Untangled Living was created by a mom for her kids as she was getting tired of all things plastic and the issue of BPA was just coming out not to mention the clutter of plastic dishes. Diapers in Need- Every Little Bottom Campaign

I was contacted the other day by Huggies asking if I would help bring awareness on the issue of Every Little Bottom and after much thought and learning about the program how could I not?
This is a serious issue in Canada and the US and moms and their baby's need our help so lets spread awareness.  Please feel free to post this on your blog just leave me your blogs url & include my link.

Did you know that 1 in 3 American moms struggle and 1 in 5 Canadian moms struggle with diaper need?  These moms have had to cut back on basics such as food, utilities like heat and even childcare to provide diapers for their babies.
Without diapers, mothers can't meet one of their baby's basic needs, yet there is little support for those moms in need and Huggies has partnered in a special program and is looking for our help to bring awareness to the much needed issue across North America in Diaper care.  I can't stress enough to help bring awareness to this topic and I will do my best to donate as diapers are always on sale and since I cloth diaper throwing in $9.99+ on a bag of any brand of disposables to help others is something I'd love to do.
Diaper Banks have been created  and with clean, dry diapers, babies are emotionally and physically healthier.  I couldn't imagine using a re-soiled diaper like in the ad above.  How do Diaper Banks work? In the same way as Food Banks, just drop it in a box.  They collect, sort and distribute to families in need, most of these Diaper Banks were created by mothers because public resources were minimal they would collect through fundraisers and diaper drives.  These moms have created the nations first Diaper Drive and Huggies is in there full swing to promote and kindly ask for your help by making donations and when you see a Diaper Bank, please think to donate diapers or head over to this link and make cash donation through Amazon.
HUGGIES® is donating 2.5 million diapers – 2 million to community diaper bank partners in the U.S. and 500,000 to Food Banks Canada.
For Canadians wanting to help out click here
Thank you for your time. I hope I've helped bring awareness to this topic & to give you something to think about the next time your down the diaper isle.   Lets help when we can.

Tommee Tippee Launch in Canada

Friday, June 25, 2010

I had the pleasure of attending the launch of Tommee Tippee and we welcome them to Canada with open arms.
Tommee Tippee is Britains best infant and toddler feeding brand and after using their products I agree.  In Britain a Tommee Tippee is sold every 3 seconds, they have earned the love and loyalty from parents worldwide.
They've been around for 50 years, they have a reputation for clever ideas and product quality.  If you ever have or had an issue their customer service team is there to help you in any way, shape and form.
I was shown in great detail the special features of their products and what really stuck close with me was their Closer to Nature bottles.  Yes, I am finished with breast feeding as I breast fed for close to 16 months and it broke my heart when Charlie could care less for it.  I was devastated when he weaned himself at that age.
With the Closer to Nature bottle, I had just used it for the first time last night and for todays afternoons nap.
Holding the bottle reminded me of how I used to hold my breast. The bottle resembles the breast and it brought back that closeness I have missed with breast feeding, and seeing my sweet boy fall asleep while drinking from the bottle reminded me too of how he'd fall asleep on the breast.  You can hold the bottle close to you because of it's special shape.   It's not long or in the way like other brands but can he held close and comfortable as breast feeding should be.  I am in love with this bottle for the emotions it has stirred and closeness it has provided for me.  I haven't had any issues with the nipple collapsing as other brands nor did I have any leaking.
Another great feature for new moms who are formula feeding you can buy a formula dispenser that sits in their 8oz/9oz Closer to Nature bottle.  How clever is that?  I never understand the dispensers with the 3 lids as they've always ended up making one big mess and it's less bulk to add to the lot.
All products are BPA free, Supports Natural Oral Development, Phthalate Compliant and exclusive to Babies R UsExplora, is a fantastic extension from their Closer to Nature line for the weaned little ones and when first foods come in to play.  I love the bowls, spoons and sippy cups.   The bibs are genius with the extra padding for any new foodie or teething drooler.  I haven't had any leaking with the sippy cups too and the packaging is wonderful because there's nothing I hate more than having to bring out the scissors and cut through the hard card board and plastic.  Whilst this comes in plastic, there's little pieces of tape that all you have to do is peel off and voila you can get the products easily and happily.
Here are some pics from the event and what an event this was!  I have never attended such a great launch with Stroller valet, transportation was provided for us, delicious food and child care was in the venue as well so I could learn more about the product and Charlie could play and have a great time. They even had Tommee Tippee spokeswoman, mom extraordinaire & comedian Sherry Davey to makes us all chuckle! What a treat. Thank you to the fantastic PR firm that put this event together.
A wonderful giveaway may just be in the works for Canadians from Everything Mom and Baby and Tommee Tippee for landing on this side of the pond.
Tommee Tippee I am delighted you have arrived!
Thank you for making a bottle that brings me back to my breast feeding days, you are the breast!  I mean BEST!
Here's a great clip of Sherry Davey:

Rockin Green Winner Announced

We have a winner!
Dear, sweet folks....I have to tell how hard it was to decide a winner that is why it has taken me 3 long days!
Thank you for your beautiful entries.  You all have amazing men in your life and I wish we could give every one of you a bag of Rockin Green!!!!!
Here is the winner for a bag of Rockin Green, Birdee wrote:
"There are so many reasons why my husband rocks it's hard to just name one or two, but I'll try. He first became a dad by taking in my oldest son as his own when he was 7 years old. My son's father left us when he was just a baby and my son never knew what it was like to have a dad. My husband took him in, loved him genuinely like he was his own. That is hard to find in a "step father", If you can imagine how I felt the day my son, so excitedly said "I have a Dad Now!". He takes him camping, hunting, fishing, boating almost every weekend - even in the winter, bought and taught him how to ride a dirt bike motorcycle, snowmobile, how to ski, mow the lawn, and just how to be a friend to people and how to be a man. We just recently decided to have a baby and he now has two sons.
I was worried that my first would feel left out, and see a different bond between my husband and his biological son. But their is no difference. My husband goes out of his way to make sure my first son KNOWS he is his son too. They still do one on one camping trips. They hang out in the garage having "guy talk". And at the age of 15, my son would rather hang out with his dad than his frinds. That's just getting started on what an amazing "ROCKIN" husband I have. Our baby is 10 months old now, and my husbands father just passed away, and my husband talks about "Grandpa" all the time and mindfully plans things with our kids so that they can have the same wonderful memories he had with his dad. He also does all the cooking, cleans, keeps his hands out of my laundry ((grrr, don't touch!)) takes the kids for walks (one in the wagon, the other on his bike, just to let me get some sleep.
He works 10 hour days to provide for his family, and still makes his kids #1 and feel important when he gets home. He even gets up wiht me in the night to make sure me and/or the baby doesnt need anything. I'll stop there. But he really does Rock!"

Rockin Green will be sending Birdee a bag of Mötley Cleän! Stay tuned for more rockin giveaways on Everything Mom and Baby!

(GIVEAWAY OVER)Tots Bots Cloth Diaper: Review and Giveaway

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

 THIS IS NOW CLOSED

I have a new favorite.  In fact I like it even better than bumGenious because it has more give/stretch where the velcro tabs are and it fits better around the legs.
Mama Ash hear to dish on a great new find in the cloth diapering world.
Tots Bots is from the UK and made in Scotland. Bummis is distributing the Tots Bots selection.
Tots Bots products are made with rayon from bamboo that will reach their full absorption capacity after 10 washes.  However after 1 wash, DS did wear them for about 3-4 hrs and no leaking.  No parents I didn't just leave him in a wet diaper, he ended up having a 3 hour nap and I don't wake up a sleeping baby....ever! He pees like a race horse so I can't wait to see how they could be better after 10 washes!
The liner consists of 2 layers. Soft rayon made from bamboo fibres sit against baby’s tender skin and actually absorbs 70% more quickly than cotton and an ultra absorbent layer of 100% polyester microfibre basically doubles the absorbency.  Protective side guards for anti-wicking, soft brushed polyester prevent compression wetness as well generously sized Velcro type closures and fold-back laundry tabs that really stick.   You just tuck it in and that's it.  Now for me I have to trek over to Diaper-eez and buy every colour!  Such a super cloth diaper, one mom on my facebook page just called them the Cadillac of cloth diapers.  I like that!

Great New Find on the Playful Peanut

Tuesday, June 22, 2010

Do I have a clever great little find for you.  Not only is it $5 but handmade with love from Manitoba.
I have a soft spot for Manitoba :) Not for their mosquitoes but it is home sweet home.
Ever have the issue of buying a size bigger pant for bebe only to find that even with the built in elastic adjustments they are still too big?  Or when buy a skirt, shorts or pants and there isn't an elastic band to accommodate growth?
Well folks, look no further.
Playful Peanut, this sweet etsy shop has just the solution.  The Elastic Toddler Belt, and it only retails for $5.  I know of another brand and it cost me $12!
From Playful Peanut:"Make any pairs of pants with belt loops adjustable with these handy toddler "belts!" They fit through the back three belt loops, and come with adjustable snaps for the perfect fit. Plus, they leave the front part of your child's pants open - perfect for potty training (or potty trained) kids!  One size fits all.  Our elastic toddler belts are CPSIA compliant"
Another great product for on the go with your tot is the Fun on the Run.
This is really a cool idea and works too.

It brings together a pad of paper and crayons, or use it as a mini chalk board with chalk or as my toddler is currently swinging it around.  Back to the mini chalk board yes it has one sewn in and a little compartment for crayons or chalk. I so needed this as I have crayons sitting in the bottom of my Maxwell Designs diaper bag.
**Note, crayons and paper are NOT included in your purchase price.

If you like what you see here as much as I do, Playful Peanut is giving Everything Mom and Baby viewers a special 15% discount.  When you check out leave a message to the seller saying you want the "EMB" discount!
And I will be doing a giveaway for one lucky reader to win a Toddler Elastic Belt and a Fun on the Run...are you interested?  Leave me a comment and we'll proceed!

Get the Cap out of Cradle Cap

Cradle cap, also known as Seborrheic dermatitis is more of a bothersome to parents rather than the baby itself.  Cradle cap occurs when the skin cells on baby's scalp grows quicker than it sheds.
Common in babies  for the first 3 months this can last as late as 12 months if parents don't know what to do or just can't be bothered.  It does happen and rarely does it go away on its own, in my case it didn't so I took matters into my own hands.
The symptoms of this range in little crusts here and there to develop into large flakes, they also vary in colour from white to yellow.
So how do you get rid of it?
Don't use Baby Oil like that popular brand!  Mineral Oil is a no, no and it can actually clog the hair follicle and make the scalp worse depending on your baby's sensitivity, it can dry the skin out because it just coats it.
For more info on Baby oil read here on the Compassionate Child.
Same goes for talc as it clogs the pores and hair follicles; talc is a carcinogenic. Yep.  Baby powder.  Use talc free my fave is from Burt's Bees but now I'm going off topic.
Olive oil is a great choice for removing Cradle cap but Calendula oil is better, not as thick and messy and well I love Weleda.  Simply massage baby's head with Weleda Calendula Oil (let it soak 10-15min) and with a fine comb, comb away gently.  You'll see the flakes lift and you'll be aesthetically pleased now as baby will have a nice "crust" free sweet smelling little baby head thanks to Weleda.
My own experience I used Weleda's Calendula oil as I love the medicinal benefits of the oil.  The results were fast and his skin was soothed and healed with Calendula's magical properties.
For more serious conditions homeopathy can be used to help, especially if it's stubborn.
Thank you Jess for this beautiful award.

Pediped- New Memory Foam shoe!

Monday, June 21, 2010

As you may know I have a love for shoes, all you have to see is my last post on how I raved over DS's Minibels and the great deal I got on them.  So here's to more shoe talk for your baby/toddler.
I also love pediped.  Pediped is introducing a new baby/toddler shoe with a Memory Foam Technology(MFT).  It is currently launched and more fabulous styles to come this fall.  The insoles mold to a childs foot and spring back when pressed to absorb shock and minimize impact. They also react to body temperature, distribute weight and provide support where needed.  Custom fit shoe for the most important little person in your life.
As you also know I am a big supporter of having only leather shoes in our home and all pediped's are made of all leather upper and lining and the soles are natural rubber sole.  Prices vary from $48-52 USD per pair.
Info on Foot Health for your developing child read here
Store Locator, read here
If price is a factor visit your local second hand or consignment store, you never know what great brands you will find there.

Recipe of the Day for Baby- Pea and Mint Puree

How refreshing on a summers day!  Recipe from my favorite Pregnancy/Infant/Toddler recipe book, Sprout Right

Pea and Mint Puree(6-9 months)

1 Carrot
1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen peas
1/4 tsp chopped fresh mint

1.Peel and chop carrot into small cubes and steam for about 15 minutes.  Add peas and steam until tender, about 5-10 minutes longer
2. Puree with mint and enough water to reach the texture of a smooth, think soup.  Makes about 1 1/2 cups.
Bon Appetit!

Petit Pied-Wicked Shoe Sale

Sunday, June 20, 2010

We were out for stroll today in beautiful Toronto and DS needed some new sandals since we lost one of his pediped's.
C'est la vie!
Speaking of French, Petit Pied is unfortuantely closing it's doors and this is the time to shop for top quality European leather shoes for baby/toddler and older kids too.
I bought a pair of Minibel sandals for him in a size 27 so I'm hoping it'll last until the end of the summer.  He has wide feet for a 20 month old and big feet.  Some of the other brands carried just to name a couple  are Minibel is recommended by the Canadian Podiatric Medical Association, Lacost, Geox, Baby Botte and many more.
Guess how much I paid for these beautifully crafted French leather shoes?  $25 with tax! Regular price..$74!  Guess where Mama Ash is shopping tomorrow? LOL!
Well-made shoes in leather are constructed to nurture little feet.
It is important to spend the money on shoes to aid in foot development, proper spine development for good posture and sorry folks but the thought of plastic on sons feet make me fret.
Why?
They harbour bacteria thanks to perspiration, make their feet stinky and most of all the toxins in plastic being absorbed through his feet into my growing sons delicate system.
So ladies, papa's, grand parents and friends check out Petit Pied for the best liquidation sale ever.  I will miss this shoe store and the quality of shoes they have brought to Toronto to for many years.
2 locations are currently open:
2651 Yonge St. (at Blythwood Rd.) 416-322-6067
890 Yonge Street (at Church St) (416) 963-5925
Info on foot health, click here
Canadian shoe company free on toxins in their leather and soles.  Read here about Little Soles
These are the shoes DS got today for a great DEAL! I love Minibel!

*Disclaimer: This is an honest review of Petit Pied and Minibel shoes.  These shoes were purchase by the blog owner of Everything Mom and Baby.

Great New Product from Live Clean

Friday, June 18, 2010

I truly love this line and now they have finally come out with bars of soap for their Baby Line.
Don't know Live Clean? You should!
Why? Because of their ingredients, the quality and price.
In a nutshell it is SLS/Sulfate free, Petroleum free, Paraben free, Phthalate free, Phospahte free, Pure vegan, never tested on animals, packaging is recyclable, biodegradable ingredients, hypo allergenic and Pediatrician tested.  I think it should also say Mom tested and approved because we all know...Moms know best.
"Live Clean was the first company to take “green beauty” out of the health food stores and into the stores where more Canadians shop. You CAN have environmentally-responsible products that are as much a pleasure to use as they are good for the Earth. "
I've been using Live Clean Baby for a while and I was gitty with happiness when I saw their bars of soap.
DS loves to play with soap in the bath and his attempt to wash himself is too cute for words and he laughs his little butt off when it slips through his hands.
You get 3 x 113g soaps in a box and it retails for $6.99
It comes in the delicious baby scent and fragrance free so you have your options.  First whiff takes me back to DS's first bath at home.  Sniff, sniff he's growing too fast. Enjoy, go get this soap and try the whole line, it is Mama Ash approved!
I also use the bubble bath soap for my home made wipes and its great!
All they need now is a talc free baby powder..ooo and baby massage oil...hint, hint Live Clean.  You have a fantastic and I love, yes Love Live Clean Baby!

Pickles The Pig DIY Diaper Wipe Kit: Review and GIVEAWAY

Wednesday, June 16, 2010

GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED: SEE WINNERS CIRCLE TAB AT THE TOP IF YOU WON!

I was really intrigued and excited when Pickles contacted me about their new product The Do It Yourself Diaper Wipe Kit.
Since I cloth diaper most of the time it only made sense to have a DIY wipe kit, right?!
People, once you have this kit you will NEVER go back to buying wipes.
The kit consists of a custom wipes container, starter roll of wipes & wipe solution(which is soap).
The nice thing about this is that I can use whatever ingredients I like.
I used Live Clean Baby Bubble Bath( free of a parabens, SLS/Sulfate free & organic), for a soothing oil I used my precious liquid gold(no I don't mean breast milk) but Calendula Oil from Weleda.  Great to soothe a fiery teething derriere and it protects the delicate skin.
What's the ingredients in your brand name/no name brand?  Go take a look.
How economical is this wiping system?  Well once you buy the kit or if your lucky you may win this kit the dollars will add up in savings.  It also feels good to be making your own wipes, very eco and smart.  No laundry needed, just toss the wipes in the garbage or flush; if you buy ones like Kushies. You can also personalise the moisture level of the wipe for a toddler poop (needs more moisture) or a newborn poop, which you will remember, needs more grabbing power than a super wet wipe.
The directions are super easy.  Warm up a cup of water add your soap and oil, pour it into the wipes container with  the wipes in it.  Once the cardboard roll(like a paper towel roll) is soggy remove it. Voila you have your own wipes, remove the center and begin once it's at room temperature.  All you need to maintain the kit is good quality paper towel.  I even used Kushies cloth diaper flushable liner since it looks like a heavy duty toilet paper roll and it's great!  Mine stays great for a about a week and a half and then I'm done and it's time for a new roll to make.  It is a godsend, yes strong words for a DIY wipe kit but why bother with anything else?  Seriously my lovely readers it's that great and very frugal too.
What do you think?  Wanna try it?  Here's the giveaway!

Can't wait until the giveaway ends to try this FANTASTIC kit?  If you go to Pickles the Pig Website you can purchase this kit for an amazing price of $8 CDN,  it retails for $16 in the stores and they do ship to the States as well.  Just email info@picklesthepig.ca and tell them you saw it on Everything Mom and Baby and you want it for $8!
