Toddlers and Cribs(climbing out of) Oh My!

Tuesday, October 26, 2010

A month of new sleep training has taken a tole but at last I think we got it! Well sort of.
The last month has brought me back to having new born with dear boys new sleeping habits.
If you ever pop over to my Facebook page you'll see my occasional banter on sleep issues we've encountered and the dread of converting crib to bed since Master Chunkle has climbed out his bed.
What toddler climbs out and then knocks on the door? I almost hit my head on the ceiling when I first heard the knock.
I mean, who the heck is knocking on my door?
Oh it's you, dear boy.

Just when you think you have it all figured out, our children will let you know that you don't.
My son has always been a great napper, sleeper etc and since we got his "big boy bed", which is his crib, converted into a day bed with a rail he pulls this "No way am I sleeping in there" move.
Why would it so different?  Putting him to sleep has been a trial but now it's almost a breeze.
It helps when I put scotch, Glenfarclas 15 year old to be exact(of course I'm joking Mom if you're reading this,a sense of humour is required to be part of the Ash' family) in his bottle.
I miss the days when it was so easy to put this dude to bed!

Silkberry Baby~ Sleep better, Live Healthier. Go natural with Silkberry Baby

Sunday, October 24, 2010

The Birth of Silkberry Baby
Carrie, a mom of two young kids created a new brand “Silkberry Baby” which is luxurious eco bedding line for baby and toddler. All uniquely designed products are filled with mulberry silk floss and use soft cotton or bamboo fabric.
Her 2nd child Angelina had allergic reaction to synthetic fibers and the polyester filled bedding also made her daughter sweat a lot at night. This caused her to begin research based on her textile knowledge accumulated in working experience for the biggest children’s wear retailer in Canada. She sourced natural, eco-friendly and sustainable fiber - mulberry silk floss and bamboo fabric, which are the best natural choice for baby and toddler’s bedding. She tried to design multi-functional and useful products for a mom’s busy life. Then she developed the new bedding products. She wants to share the benefits of Silkberry Baby products with other parents so that all the children will maintain the sleeping routine and have a better sleep. All moms can have peace of mind and a good rest at night. She believes in making healthy, natural and green living choices for the little ones. And she will continue designing for mom’s needs.

Benefits of Silkberry Baby Products
*      Safe, healthy and hypo-allergenic
*       Super soft, incredible light and durable
*      Breathable and regulating body temperature
*       Anti-bacterial and mould/mildew resistant
*      Multi-functional, natural and chemical-free
*       Eco-friendly and sustainable
*      Easy to maintain

Steven & Chris

Wednesday, October 20, 2010

 I have a new love. Well, it's two guys and they make this mama's heart swoon.  You guessed it's Steven and Chris. Canada's favorite designer guys.

I am smitten when men love their mama's and these boys must make their moms proud.
Well, they spoke highly of their moms and displayed their affection for them throughout the Q & A, how can I not like them?
After all their best selling chair is called Glenda and that's Chris' moms name.
If Charlie is a designer when he grows up, I hope he'll have something called "Erica" or a line called "Mama Ash", LOL!

Also how sweet is it that Steven would come home with flowers for his mom after school?
How did he manage to scrounge up change for that?  Bless his heart as he didn't know better but he was just a kid and when his mom asked how me managed to come home with flowers.  He told her he got them from the graveyard!
All the moms of boys (I'm sure) let a out a big, affectionate "Awwwww" (I know I did) especially when he said it like this:
"What? I was a kid? I didn't know any better? I just wanted to bring my mom flowers."
Friday's show is a special show as the whole audience are bloggers and their friends and/or family  came too.  That's how I got invited to the show and it was a treat. I saw familiar faces like Lianne from Sprout Right and a fellow blogger I know through her great posts and twitter, Pamela from My Life as Libra. I also got to know others as well.
 I've never been to a taping of a show and it was a lot of fun.  I won a leopard scarf and my friend, Natalya won 10 gallons of Para paint!  How cool and fun, even though I almost got hit in the head with a flying Winners box.  I guess I was meant to have it.
So the  show consisted of DYI for small pictures, making a teenagers room punk(can Green Day be seriously considered punk?) Chris left a mark on the bed but you'll have to see what he did.  He's a silly, sweet man!  I personally loved the Pulled Pork segment and as soon as I saw them put Dr.Pepper in the pot I knew there was some goodness waiting for us outside.  Yes we also got lunch served for us.  But the surprise guest was Jenny McCarthy.  Promoting her book, Lust, Love and Faking It.
Thanks to Jenny, I will never look at a teddy bear the same way, again when you watch the show, Friday, Oct.22 at 2pmEST you will know why!
I can't thank CBC, Jeff Perrin, Steven and Chris and Deb McCain and her crew for inviting me to the show.  I would love to pop by and visit again.  Anybody here want tickets?  Leave a comment here and if you'd like to see more pictures, come by my Facebook Page.
Who knows...maybe they will be looking for a mom to dish out awesome infant/toddler products around the holidays?  Do I see a future.....um. No.  But it would be fun!

A Zombie Ate My Cupcake! by Lily Vanilli

Halloween parties, Day of the Dead, Samhain celebrations whatever you call it theses parties are around the corner and sure decorations add the feeling for such a great holiday but when there's a party there has to be food and why not bake in style?  Need idea's?

You could also bake cupcakes from this awesome book A Zombie Ate My Cupcake.
With recipes like Eerie Eyeballs(yep, that's the picture above) it even has the recipe to make the eyeballs, the cupcake itself is made from a batch of red velvet...love red velvet!
The worms are just marzipan, with copper food colouring.

Lily shows you how to turn your cupcakes into amazing and delicious sculptures using the simplest methods using a range of natural ingredients.
Go to Amazon and see more of the book, I think it's a super fun way to get into the Halloween mood and to bake with your kids.  If you bake them for a party, your guests will be amazed.

Another look inside this book:

What do you do to get into Halloween spirit?  Baking works for me!  I'd love to hear from you :)
Here's a link to where I found a couple of Lily Vanilli's recipes online.
Who is Lily Vanilli? Check out her website here. She is just as delicious as her recipes!

Zoe's Organic- Beautiful Handcrafted Skincare for Baby

Thursday, October 14, 2010

Working in skincare for 10 years now and being an esthetician now mom this is me in a nutshell:
 1) I love skincare
2)  I enjoy helping my guests make the right skincare choices and methods to achieve healthy skin
3) I am a product junkie...extreme product junkie
4) I am on top of all the latest in skincare products and trends, especially organic natural skincare.
5) When I, the esthetician had a baby I got even more aware of what's in products and wanted the best.

Johnsons & Johnsons? Heck no! When there are way better products out there ( I am a junkie as mentioned above).  It's all about the safest ingredients and best ingredients going on and into your childs skin and here comes one of my #1 recommendations for baby.

 When I came across Zoe Organics I was over the moon reading the ingredients and just so happy to see such a beautiful line.  When I looked, opened and used the products you can feel the love that was put in to creating this line.  Zoe Organics does celebrate life and cultivate life to honor mommies and babies everywhere.
A little bit about Zoe Organics
As a child Heather Hamilton was extremely sensitive and was allergic to almost everything and a severe asthma attack was brought on by a seemingly safe bubble bath. A young child and/or  parent should NEVER have to worry about a severe reaction caused by a children’s product.
Motherhood has led her to make more educated choices with regards to health and well-being and her own circle of friends noticed big gaps in the products available on the market. She became passionate about filling that void and began to create natural and organic potions for her own family.

Why I love, love, love Zoe Organics!
The ingredients, quality and the rating they have on EWG's Cosmetic Data Base.
Apricot Kernel oil calms inflammation and eczema, beeswax healing, antiseptic & biologically active, Calendula healing to cuts and burns, Chamomile another anti inflammatory and a soothing precious oil.
Want to learn more about her ingredients, click here.  It is truly magical and honest, you won't find anything synthetic.

 In the gift set I got the Organic Baby Bath Tea that is utterly perfect, smart and gentle.  After it was saturated in the bath water, I used it as a "sponge", it's gentle and hydrating because it has cocoa butter.  It also came with the Gentle Hair and Body Wash, an old world style castile wash scented with mandarin and lavender(the best choices in aromatherapy for baby), Organic Baby Massage Oil which was so gentle and soothing to my sensitive boys skin.  It is extremely nutrient rich which we LOVE!
Next in the gift set was the Organic Baby Balm.  A must have for sun burn, wind burn(winters around the corner), dry lips, eczema, dry cheeks, cuts everything, it is a must have for parents and baby and lastly their Organic Diaper Balm.  A perfect, natural barrier infused with Lavender, Calendula and Chamomile.  His teething bum is perfectly protected and soothed.

Do you all now understand why I love this line???  I cannot wait to be am NOW their first Canadian retailer and bring this to you my fellow Canadians so you can experience beautiful, organic, 100% effective skincare for your beautiful child.

Guest Post on Ritmo!

Friday, October 8, 2010

Ritmo Nuvo MP3 Advanced Sound System for Mom and Baby.  They are even working on bigger and better things like having loved ones do a voice recording.  How special for family who are in the military or who are far way and want to communicate with their loved ones!  Your husband may be over fighting a war or away on business but baby can hear his voice and sweet words of love.
I think a perfect gift for any expecting mommy.  I wish I knew about Ritmo before hand, here's our story.

This week we are pleased to introduce our readers to popular parenting blogger, Erica Ashmore, a.k.a. Mama Ash. Erica runs the site Everything Mom and Baby where she blogs about great finds for – you guessed it – mom and baby.

Babies All Ears
by Erica Ashmore

Visualize a new born screaming on the change table because baby is scared and doesn’t like the idea of getting changed. Mom and dad frantically try to soothe by hushing, they try placing a hand on baby’s abdomen so the little one feels more secure. Nothing is working. But wait, one parent gets a thought and asks, ” what did we sing to baby in utero? The alphabet? Does that work?”
Sweet boy is still crying, wet bum in the air and hubby starts singing “A, B, C, D, E, F, G…” it’s magic – baby is settling! The cries slow down and becomes a mere whimper and by the time they get to “W, X, Y, Z” the child is quiet looking up contented at its parents.
Yes, you guessed it. That was us.
From early on as soon as we got to about 24 weeks, we started talking to him but mostly it was my husband singing to Charlie the A, B, C’s. After the above “incident” we quickly learned the power of song and the effect it had in utero. It works classically to this very day at 23 months of age. When we have a freak out…I mean when Charlie has a freak out, we soothe him by singing the A, B, C’s. When it’s time for a nap or bedtime I rock away with him singing and now he’s beginning to sing them with us.
In utero we would end it with “Give a Kick to Mommy.” It’s now “Give a Kiss to Mommy/Daddy” and well, I get most of the kisses. It’s truly magical how this works on soothing our son. I am a firm believer and I hope I’ll have a Ritmo for my next pregnancy. If you haven’t thought of it or ever wondered if it works, trust me when I tell you it does. Now if only the A,B. C’s would work for my freak out. It would be a lot less caloric compared to a glass of wine, that’s for sure!

Check out Ritmo's Nuvo and Friends Blog and leave a comment there :)
Did you sing to baby?

My youngest daughter was the opposite! She would hang on to me until it was ridiculous!!! She did this through Kindergarten and Grade1. I remember once, thinking I'd made a clean go of it when I heard her running down the hallway of the school yelling, mommy, mommy lol Poor kidlet!

I'd prefer "either" actually as I have both a boy and a girl who could use these!
