The Phytozyme Cure Book {Review}

Monday, January 31, 2011

With January coming to end and hopefully you're still sticking to your New Years resolutions as most of those resolutions consist of losing weight, eating healthier, quiting damaging habits to our overall health and such.

Mine are still going full swing, my Fit Chicks bootcamp is coming to a close but I have learned the valuable importance if staying fit and healthy and along with that came The Phytozyme Cure.

What a great book!
Some of the great features in this book include ways to accelerate weight loss(teaches you about the importance of diet, probiotics and even deficiencies in your body)
Improve faster healing and energy and most important enhance your immune system.
I have always believed and practiced myself in natural healing and do believe in it for prevention  and with the food we eat, should be our medicine.
Another great thing about this book is you learn about your types, not all people require the same diet and you can do a test in the book to determine which one is best for your body.  There's the Carb type, the Fat type, a Combination type and Protein type.  You can learn what foods you need for optimal weightloss and food your body truly needs to maintain and function properly. You need enzymes to reduce imflammation which has been linked to chronic diseases and not aging gracefully.

Dr. Michelle Schoffro Cook has written such a fantastic book based on an all natural diet and nutrition based plan that combines the healing power of phytonutrients and enzymes, something our bodies lack and need to strengthen immune function, maintain aging healthfully and youthfully and most important prevent heart disease, the number killer in females.

Sweet Pea Diaper Giveaway!

Tuesday, January 25, 2011

Sweet Pea Diapers are based out of Eastern Ontario that brings you affordable cloth diapers.
I was sent a diaper to review, their All in One and I like them... a lot.

What's so nice about them?
My favorite feature of the cloth diaper itself is that the cover fits large. I have a very tall 2 yr old and he weighs close to 40 pounds.  I was worried that the diaper may be too small as their brand goes up to 35pds.  When I put it on him, we still had room for 2 rows of snaps.
They are nicely made as well and it came with two inserts.  One of the inserts has snaps on it so you could fold the top portion down and snap securely for extra pee pee absorbency.  Mind you they are a little thinner compared to what I normally use(so the diaper will fit over clothing easier which is a bonus) but the bamboo insert Nancy sent me as well did the job and we are pretty happy with the outcome of the diaper. It's an awesome diaper and they worked great for us.

Where can I buy them?!
Well, they cost $16.95, I did mention they were affordable. How wicked is that?!  You can find them at your favorite diaper retailer, if they don't carry Sweet Pea Diaper, ask them to!

More on the One Size Diaper:
What is so great about this diaper is it's all you need as a One size cloth diaper.  If you're researching cloth diapers I recommend starting out with a One Size because for getting started and getting familiar with cloth diapers it can be overwhelming.
They fit from birth all the way up to potty training, it has four snaps in the front and as baby gets bigger you move up along the row.  This is what it looks like at their largest setting.
To learn about the diaper watch this great video from Dirty Diaper Laundry, and for diaper specifics click here

Looking for reviewers for Eco Sprout

Friday, January 21, 2011

Hi Everyone!  I posted this on my Facebook page and thought I'd tell you all here as well.
There's a new detergent on the scene made by a WAHD and from the US.
They are looking for Canadian retailers and as they kindly said to me " we love your site and fb page!" so they are hoping I can bring Canadians their eco friendly detergent North of the Border.

So.....I want your help in reviewing!

Please go to my Facebook page and go to the Discussion tabs.
We are looking for FOUR families to review this soap for me.  You must use these on your cloth diapers as this is the whole point of the review and what Eco Sprout is essentially all about.
It is great for regular laundry as well but I want to know how well it cleans your cloth diapers.
Families will be sent sample sizes for their review.

So pop over to my page, check out Eco Sprouts website here

Recipe of the Day for Toddler- Oatmeal Crusted Chicken Tenders

Let your toddler help by identifying and gathering the ingredients!
From one of my favorite cookbooks for babes and tots, Cooking Light-first foods.  I have a review coming up on Born Free with my favorite cookbooks for our munchkins.

Oatmeal Crusted Chicken Tenders

1 cup old-fashioned oats
3/4 grated fresh Parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon of thyme
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/4 teaspoon of freshly ground pepper
1 pound of chicken breast tenders

Preheat oven to 450F.
Place oats in a food processor 20 seconds or until coarsely ground.  Add cheese and the next 3 ingredients.  Pulse to combine and place in a shallow bowl.

Place each chicken breast tender between 2 sheets of heavy duty plastic wrap and pound to 1/4 inch thickness using a meat mallet or small heavy skillet.
Coat both sides of tenders with your usual cooking spray(I prefer Grapeseed Oil or Olive Oil) dredge the tenders in the oat mixture.

Place tenders on a baking sheet(spray the baking sheet as well, or place on foil).
Bake at 450F for 15 minutes or until browned.
Serve with your kids favorite tipping sauce and steamed veggies.

Miss Jessies-Baby Buttercreme, treat those unruly curls and kinks!

Tuesday, January 18, 2011

When I had the chance to review Miss. Jessies I had the perfect in person in mind as I do not have unruly kinks and curls.  My friends daughter does(she is African) and I wanted her to try this product for  I have heard so much about in the world of beauty buzz.  Yes, it's true I don't have African hair, what do I know?  But I wanted to share this product with my readers as some of you do as does your little ones.

Here's what she said about her experience with Buttercreme on her 3 year old daughter:
I just got to say...wow...finally an amazing baby hair product has been born.
Firstly my daughter doesn't even want to see a hair brush close to her face. When my friend told me to try this, I was of corse a bit skeptical...especially when she doesn't have African hair...(ha-ha..)
I'm sure you can all agree how much money we waste on products as well. I gave it a try and all I had to do was massage the crème into her hair. It made her hair so soft and easy to brush and it made her curls much softer...
The scent of this hair crème, even my husband could not get over it, and my daughter kept on smelling her hair.
All my friends wondered what it was I was using in my daughters her as it smelled so delicious..Its just the right texture and its not greasy like other hair crèmes! Bravo to this amazing product. I'm even considering on using it on my own her!

Specs on the Buttercreme:

Super moisturizing daily maintenance hydration creme softens like no other. Great for kids and adults who like a soft scented moisturizer. Excellent as a daily moisturizer after Curly Pudding, Curly Meringue or Stretch Silkening Creme. Banishes dry hair and adds a plump sheen to lifeless curls.

Fit Chicks Bootcamp week 7

 Mondays class was wicked!
We partnered up and did a variety of excercises to get our heart pumping and blood flowing.  I felt stronger and stronger the more I did it.  I ROCK!  Yes, I am flattering myself :)LOL!

If there's one thing I can say about getting fit with Fit Chicks is it's amazing how good you feel.  To think I could still be a lethargic, unhealthy mom  and that makes me worry as to how I let it happen.
It's easy to lose yourself after having baby.  How many of you have gone 3-5 days without a shower when you had a new born and no family or friends to help?  I raise my hand, LOL! I am shameless.

We eat, we sleep, we eat more to give baby the best breast milk possible and we try to sleep when baby does.  It's easy to fall into the routine of baby as we are mothers but when they get older and require more energy from us sometimes we need help and Fit Chicks has been  my help.

I have more energy, my posture is better, I can run around and bend over backwards playing with my now 2yr old and not feel out of breath.  I feel alive again and I must say I don't want to ever feel out of shape again!

Every Monday and Wednesday I look forward to my "ME time", to see my instructor Dana and to see all the fabulous ladies that make Fit Chicks fun.
Is it hard work? Yes.  Do you feel sore the next day? Sometimes.  Do you feel stronger? YES! Would you do this for another 8 weeks? OF COURSE!

Moms I cannot recommend Fit Chicks enough, get out there!
Feel good about yourself, get fit, you have one body and one life to live and you have to live for it.
It's a waste of a life to let yourself go as I have.  I am so tired of being "the bigger girl" considering I've been thin my whole life....until I moved to Toronto....hmmmmm...Maybe I need to move back Winnipeg?
What am I thinking? They don't have Fit Chicks in the 'Peg....I'm staying here so I can feel comfortable in my own skin for once!  God I miss that feeling....sob, sob as now I'm feeling sorry for myself!  Oh Mama Ash snap out of it!

Check out my interview with Fit Chicks here

i'coo Targo-Must Have!

Monday, January 17, 2011

I love products from Europe..especially when they make it to North America and the newly revised i'coo Targo has made a fantastic adjustment to their strollers.  As a tall Lass this is something that would be a big selling point in purchasing this stroller.

i'coo from Germany has extended the handle by a couple of inches for taller people and at $599 this is a spectacular value for a packed stroller.  A special feature that I love since I haven't seen this in other strollers is it has a built in boot cover!  This stroller has everything and is a Must Have!
What's included in this fabulous stroller( I am drooling over this as my Maxi Cosi Foray is in the trash since the handle at the base of the stroller snapped!)

1. Elevation feature
2. Adjustable handle height
3. Multi-adjustable footrest
4. Single handed recline system
5. Reversible seat
6. Separate bassinet
7. Extendible canopy
8. Light-weight stroller frame
9. Single step breaking system
10. Universal infant car seat adaptor
11. Ultra light weight EVA wheel
12. Rain cover with UV Protection

The i’coo Pacific is JPMA certified and meets all USA and Canadian safety standards.

Have you used i'coo? Please share your experience with us!

Zoli Baby, Oh Baby I love them!

I recently had the pleasure to review the line from Zoli Baby and what a fantastic line!

Who are Zoli Baby?
ZoLi's products offer sustainability and a style for a modern design that both reflects and enhances it's utility.  Creating products to make parent's lives easier while growing a greener future for their children as all products are free of BPA and ZoLi products are made of polyethersulfone (PES), which are free of the potentially harmful chemicals such as bisphenol-A and phthalates. PES is characterized by a natural amber color and its ability to withstand high temperature.

My Favorites

I love the teethers, BOT(seriously doesn't leak!) and most of all the change pads.  In fact I got a bunch moms on to their mats as it's great to even use for when mom and baby/toddler go to Baby Yoga!  Yes, it's so cute to see your child, well your toddler doing poses on their own mat with the help of mom of course. Also if your having a hard time getting your child to brush it's teeth, their Gummy Stick, you get two and are a wonderful and great product. I found it to be helpful and it's great for those last set of molars to soothe those tender gums.

The change mats also called "baby OHM" come in a variety of colours and here are some important features:
  • PVC & latex free
  • 100% degradable
  • Non-slip & Water-resistant
  • Available in Blue, Pink, Orange, & Green
Using Baby OHM not only gives you peace of mind but it also helps your baby stay "centered" during changing time with the non-toxic, non-slip material. Baby OHM is made of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), which is a material with zero PVC, latex, and chloride – allowing you to stay mindful of your baby's health and the environment.

But first pop over to their site and tell me here what you like the most and I'll get it!

Fit Chicks Bootcamp- 2 more classes left

Saturday, January 15, 2011

2 more classes then the giveaway for someone to win a 4 week pass and shed some weight in Fit Chicks!
I think last class was one of Dana's best...wait I'm sure I've said this before...?  Every class is different and never boring.  I find it so boring using the gym in my building..oh now I know why I never do, LOL!

We targeted more ab work outs(ouch!), more cardio(awesome!) and it was hard core! One of the hardest I think.  I would love every class to be like that one.  Dana if you're reading this, you little fire cracker, you are awesome!
I couldn't walk..well I waddled after that kick ass workout for 2 days, such a good burn to remind me of my work out.  With squats and lunges it's well worth it for fabulous legs.

It is such a fun way to work out, don't worry about a drill sergeant like you see on tv, these chicks are awesome, they want you to succeed and they make working out fun again.

I have woken up muscles that have been asleep for a very long time.  Although Fit Chicks has only just started again for last week, my muscle memory has kicked in a lot quicker than last time.
I know I am back in the swing of things as when I'm waiting for the elevator I'll do elbow to knee moves, in the elevator I'm doing squats and punches, I just want to keep moving!
Thank you Fit Chicks!  I don't know where I'd be if I never got to experience this kind of living!
Looking at this picture just makes me want to get in there and sweat up a storm!

First Food Organics Giveaway!

Thursday, January 13, 2011

I must say,  First Food Organics is yummy food for your baby and toddler.
It's made fresh and sent frozen to you for your convenience to use when need be.
The flavours are so good as well as the selection.

We added the purees to pancakes, we used the the Baked Apple last night as a dipper for Charlies favorite Sweet Potato baked fries. It was a hit.  Use the purees as spreads in a sandwich as well, really it's more than just puree if you have a older baby like I do.
Cottage Cheese mixed in with their Banana and Blueberries is just delish as I had a spoonful before serving it my son.  It's fun to explore what you can add her products too.

Who is First Foods Organics?
Jenn Clark is the fabulous Canadian mom behind this brand.  After she got tired of the selection and lack of flavours(how awesome is this blend for example, apple, beet and flax) available she started making her own and now she offers you what you'd make for your baby, just like you would in your own kitchen - baked, blended, frozen and ALWAYS 100% organic.
We all have those moments when we're exhausted or running low on our own stock, I'm glad I have stash in freezer.

Their products are currently available online, see their special offers here but if you have a grocer or neighbourhood store that you'd like to see them carry First Food Organics let them know!

{THE GIVEAWAY}

First Food Organics is going to give one lucky Canadian family a starter kit, which consists of 12 purees with these following flavours:

Return to Fit Chicks Bootcamp

I was going through fitness withdrawal with FitChicks being closed over the holidays.  Just as I was getting better at it, just as I was beginning to feel fitter and healthier for 4 weeks FitChicks left me high and dry because of some holiday!
I hope next year they will rethink being closed for 4 weeks.  I lost my mojo as I'm sure others did as well.  It was Christmas afterall who says no to sweets, delightful beverages and food.
The nice thing is my measurements weren't too different either. My weight is still down from when I first started.  Woo hoo!

Monday was my first class after the holidays and oh my goodness...Let's just say my glutes are s-o-r-e
I can't wait for tonight's class...I only have 3 classes left :(  and then I'm done blogging about my favorite Chicks and someone here will win 4 weeks of FitChicks for them selves....quite lucky if you ask me.
It was nice to see familiar faces and new ones who are working on themselves for their New Years resolution.

As hard as it is to do some of the excercises, it just easier to do them as I discovered with forward jumping jacks.  It's much easier to actually do it then do them halfassed.  Just when you think you can't do it, you can.  Cardio is still my weakest and I hope to improve it with my last few classes.  To be honest I hope we can continue after my 8 week blogging series is over.
I love the work out.

Fit Chicks just sent us what are your 3 goals and to paste them on the fridge to remember what starting FitChicks is all about.  It's about being healthy. I felt better and you will too.

My 3 goals are:

1) To Eat Clean and prepare better meals for the family
2) Continue Fit Chicks and try to do yoga once a week
3) Play hard with my 2 yr old

Do you have 3 goals you'd like share?  Check out Fit Chicks new website!

Bees Knees-The Ultimate Pants for Your Little Crawler

Update!  We're giving away 2 additional pairs! You pick the size and style!
A little while ago I came across Bees Knees on my Facebook page as Tammany, the creator of Bees Knees shared with us that Kushies will be partnering up with her, great news for a mom who only started her company a little while ago.
As well you can find Bees Knees at Babies R Us across Canada, Whole Foods in Oakville,ON and to find other retailers, click here

Since I don't have a crawler anymore I asked one of my Facebook fans of Everything Mom and Baby if she'd be interested in reviewing these pants for me.
Here's her experience:
We used the pants twice this week and I really like what they do.  She will only get to wear them for maybe a few more weeks because she is so tall and she looks ridiculous in her short pants but they are great for at home. Normally we use leggings or Baby Legs because any other kind of pant is just so hard to fit over a cloth diaper but I didn't have that problem with these pants (which is a big plus!).  Also, even with the Baby Legs or the leggings covering her skin it's still red at the end of the day and I still have to put Lanolin on them.  Again, I didn't have that problem with these pants.
At first, I think the padding threw her off because as soon as I put them on her she started crawling with her bum in the air and wouldn't touch her knees to the ground.  It was really funny to watch.  It took her a bit to realize she wasn't actually crawling over things.  I think even after she starts walking these pants would be useful because toddlers fall and young children play on their knees.   The one thing that could be a problem is that you have to remember to take the padding out when you wash them.  I hope I remember to do so.  I think I may buy a pair because I noticed they come in several styles and colors.  Thank you for giving us the opportunity to try these pants!
Product Features
  • Cushy neoprene padding to protect delicate knees and absorb shock
  • Roomy fit for chubby legs/diapers
