Man, why didn't they have something like this when I was a kid?  Did your parents teach you anything about money or only after when you were in your 20's? LOL!

I thought money was just a piece paper.  Nothing to it. When I wanted something I would ask "Mom...Dad just give the cashier the paper or that plastic card." and like magic....Voila!  It's yours.

I remember as a little girl back home in Winnipeg at Eatons, I would rush up to the 9th floor. On that floor you would find TOYS!
I wanted Barbie.  I remember saying to my mom it was only one $20 bill.  I also remember I distinctly threw a tantrum over a watering tin that I wanted. I still remember the isle, the colours on that watering tin and that it was around maybe $5...under $5 for sure. It was 80's and I can't imagine it being more than that. Again, I plead, I cried and said it's only one $5 dollar bill! or five of the $1 Dollar bills (remember those?!) LOL!

And my mother always said "No money, No Funny"

I did get that watering can ;) and I remember I found a bus pass and returned it to the owner, I got a $10 reward and I remember peddling on my bike thinking I have enough saved up to buy that Valentines Barbie.  I guess my parents taught us a little as I remember saving up for that silly doll.

So here comes Learning Money with Leo, a new FREE app from the  Royal Bank of Canada that is available in French and English.

This app is aimed for kids 6 years and under but I think it can easily be used for all ages below 12 years...perhaps the tweens will need something more dazzling and funkier.

Here's what Learning Money with Leo is all about:

"Learning Money with Leo features a variety of kid-friendly and interactive games (Match It game, Gather The Coins and Spot The Differences) to teach your children everything from earning, to saving, to spending money. As your child plays each game they’re able to earn coins, which can be used to buy stickers for their very own virtual sticker book."

This is part of the story portion of the app.

I really like the Read a Long Story book which  teaches the value of earning and saving.

It's so easy to download this app. It is currently only available for iPad. Go to this {link} and download, it's easy.  Then enjoy watching your child play and LEARN!

We downloaded this yesterday and when my son got on the iPad today, it was the first app he went too.
I look forward to teaching him the value of a dollar and combining it with what he can learn with Leo.
