Keeping Cool with a Work of Art

Monday, June 25, 2012

We've gone through a lot of fans over the years.  We've had big ones, table top ones, the square ones that sit on the floor and even the little hand held ones.  They are all either are too loud, they break down easily, or they are just plain dangerous with a curious little one's probing hands around.  But if you need a fan, this has been what you have to live with. Until now.
Dyson products are very impressive.  They really think outside the box to come up with solutions to long held household issues.  Everybody knows about their amazing vacuums that  lead the industry, but I think their fans are even cooler. (Pun intended).

Over the years when we've decided to purchase a fan we've looked for size, power and hopefully one that isn't too loud. But, the bigger the fan the louder it will be.  And no matter how you place the fan in your room, it sticks out like a sore thumb. The fan has always been a utilitarian machine, not aesthetically pleasing in the least.
The Dyson AM02 Tower fan (pictured below) is the polar opposite of any fan we've ever come across.  It looks gorgeous.  It looks like a modernist sculpture that would have Henry Moore seeing green. (We have the largest collection of Henry Moore sculptures in the world at the Royal Ontario Museum, and truth be told, I'd rather have a Dyson in my living room!)
My son Charlie is 3 and a half. 'Nuff said. He can put his hand right through the Dyson fan and still has it when he pulls it back out! Other fans have screens that are supposed to protect your hands from the blades, but they always seem to come off, and then they never fit properly when you put them back on!
The Dyson makes very little noise and produces a strong breeze. It was always a trade-off before - you could have a strong breeze, but the noise level was too high to sleep with, and if the fan was relatively quiet,  you didn't get cool in the least.
It comes with a remote control. How many times have I had to get out of bed to adjust the fan? Those days are over, just like having to physically turn the channels on the TV.  Most people reading this probably never had to do that!

There we have it, the Dyson fan looks beautiful, produces a strong, virtually silent breeze, isn't dangerous for kids, and has a remote control!  If it could only give foot massages, I'd never leave the house!
By the way! We're having a Dyson D37 Giveaway, enter here! Open to Canadians only ;)
