Fisher Price: The Joy of Learning Playtime Guide #FisherPriceMoms

Have you visited Fisher Price recently? If so then you  might have noticed a fresh new look and their Playtime Guide.

Their Playtime Guide helps first time parents and gift givers find the right toys.  The Playtime Guide identifies the way a child will develop their skills through playing with a Fisher-Price toy.
When I was visiting Toys R Us online and in the search box type in Fisher Price everything comes up and the slideshow shows age appropriate and shows you The Joy of Learning.  Brilliant!

Some of the benefits when looking through the Playtime Guide is:

1) Getting the right product for the child's age
2) You learn the stages of development: Cognitive Skills, Social and Emotional and Physical
3) You learn about how play leads to more learning.

But how do you consider which toy to buy?
For me I am a little selective.  As my son got older it got easier.  I would browse the toy isle and look for the age appropriate labeling.  As a first time mom labeling made it much easier to know what would be appropriate for my son.

What resources do you use to help in your decisions?
When my son was younger he was putting everything in his mouth.  My decisions were based on where the product was made, is it BPA and pthalate free and free from all the other toxic chemicals?
Something that Fisher Price is free of.  If you are concerned contact you can contact them here.

What are the important factors that influence what toys you purchase?
Well I love natural toys.  I'll be honest.  I cringed when people were purchasing plastic toys for my son and that were not age appropriate and made a lot of noise.
But those natural, Waldorf inspired, wooden toys that create imagination play can be expensive so I understand also Fisher Price has some great sales.  I have had fun visiting thrift stores and have found vintage wooden Fisher Price toys like this one.  And your child can still have imagination play with the bell and whistles types of toys too.  I know and I am a fan of how Fisher Price has come along with introducing the Fisher Price Classics collection.
My son plays and learns something new everyday. Whether its figuring out how to balance on his balance bike to painting and creating colour combo's and treasured art work for us to wanting to read and look through his books.  He tries so hard and is getting into spelling.  He'll be attending JK for the first time as well so I am anxious to see what he learns through play at school.

Can you think of an example where your child[ren] have learned though play? Can you think of any particular developmental skills you actually noticed your child[ren] maturing while they were playing?

I noticed my kids learned a lot by using the wooden box with shape inserts. It helped with their fine motor skills and concentration. They learned to focus on the task at hand and manipulate objects to fit. I love watching kids learn and improve through play!

I remember watching my boys learn with blocks....when they mastered locking the blocks together, it was a big step for their hand/eye co-ordination

Learning through play is so important. I love that FP is putting such detail on their packaging.

There are so many things that my kids learned thru play -- eye-hand coordination (stacking), shapes and colours (shape sorters) and animals and sounds (puzzles) to name a few.

And Fisher Price was a part of each step. I used to joke that my house was decorated in the FP Colour Palette as we had FP toys in everyroom!

That is so brilliant! It can be hard to pick out just the right toy and while it is on the top of my list that the toy be fun... I also love when they help with development too!

Wow, great question. I notice my kids developing all the time, maybe even every day. I'm really fortunate to get to stay at home with them. Thanks for sharing. Besos Sarah

Fisher Price has always helped our son with motor skills and dexterity which is great! Blocks especially and fire trucks that make noise with little men.

Fisher-Price blocks are a timeless master piece. It's very rare that kids don't enjoy playing with blocks. They always make great gifts.
