Green Your Routine: Get cleaner & greener with washing your dishes #GYR

Wednesday, September 12, 2012

We have some big things coming up on Everything Mom and Baby and great news to share as well.  Right now we are so focused on 'Greening Our Routine' and clearing out some left over junk and products we have.

I am interested in this Seventh Generations program because when it comes to cleaning, I the Lady of the House does most of gritty work.  With all the laundry and cleaning I do and as we're trying for baby #2, I am even more careful of the products we use at home because what you inhale can have a negative effect on the 1) Planet, 2) your health and 3) potentially the growing baby inside.

Lets start with dishes.  Do you have a dishwasher? If so LUCKY YOU!  I don't so I do things the good 'ol fashioned way and wash by hand.  I did receive Seventh Generations Lavender and Rosemary dish soap(my favorite combo of scents) and it is one of my favorite toxin free products to use around the house.  It's also hypo allergenic, works amazingly well against grease and grime and it's not harsh on my skin.
Many dish and laundry soaps use petrochemicals (derived directly from oil).  Ick. Mineral Oil. Luckily there are many companies that have created plant based, family safe alternatives to ensure you can avoid toxins in your home.
What's the big deal with petro chemical heavy products? Well they can be contributed to the rise of cancer, allergies, asthma and birth defects.

So here's to starting small to Greening Your Routine.  Start with dish soap because what's the point of using those lovely reusable lunch containers and then wash with toxic soap?
Stay tuned for next weeks topic!
Are you concerned about the toxic ingredients that sneak into almost everything?

Over the last year or so I have started to pay more attention to what is in the products I use in the house.

I am picking this one up next time I need dish soap - which is often, because like you I am the dishwasher.
