Win the Ultimate Stroller Accessory ~ Papoose by 7 A.M. Enfant

Friday, March 30, 2012

I'd like to introduce to you to Terri from Babylish Advice.  She writes a fabulous blog about the latest in toys, guides to feeding, shopping and so much more.
Here is her first guest post on Everything Mom and Baby as I asked her to review the 7A.M. Enfant Papoose.

I am so happy to finally say that it is time to retire the thick winter bunting bag and time to start looking for a Spring  one.

I absolutely love the 7 A.M. Enfant brand and was thrilled to hear that they recently came out with  a light weight version of their winter bunting bag.  I can truly say this product is WICKED.
It has a nice light weight plush fabric on the inside that is just so soft and the outer material is a water proof material which will come in handy for those April showers.

One of my favorite features is the pacifier pocket! I can't even tell how many times I have left the house to go for walk and left my son's paci back home and I only figure it out when he is screaming his head off and I have nothing to soothe him with.  I know this pocket will come in handy and I am sure you mom's and dad's can agree.

Here are some other great features about the Papoose( I love that name!)

  • Comes in 5 great colours (Terri note: We know how important colour choice is!)
  • Two sizes available, small/medium(0-18months), medium/large(18months-3yrs)
  • Can be converted from stroller seat to a car seat liner
  • Front full length zipper (Terri note: with a lot of bunting bags, the zipper does not go all the way to the end of bag)
  • Machine washable (Terri note: This is a MUST!)
For a location that sells 7 A.M. Enfant, visit this {link}

This is a great Spring product for rain and wind protection and I would say this is a stroller MUST HAVE!

Reebok Giveaway ~ RealFlex Tranistion

Thursday, March 29, 2012

Want a pair? Come and get 'em.

2 weeks ago I had the pleasure to visit a Crossfit Gym and I loved it.  I also loved the fab Reebok gear I got to use as we worked out HARD.

Besides the awesome workout, what stood out for me was what was on my feet.  I have NEVER worn such comfortable runners.  I mean I want to wear them 24/7 and Reebok Canada has kindly agreed to give a pair away to a lucky subscriber of Everything Mom and Baby.  So if you aren't already subscribing to my blog, now is the time!

A little about the RealFlex Transition runner:

Train light on your feet with added control. Exclusive RealFlex technology helps promote natural movement of your foot. Individual flex-friendly “nodes" are designed to help your feet move and flex as you train. You get added stability throughout your workout thanks to reinforcements at the heel and toe of the RealFlex Transition. The single layer polyester mesh upper has a stylish hotmelt appliqué to
add strength with minimal weight. The thin micro suede tongue won't cramp your style. The full collar lining and added heel counter provide extra comfort that lasts throughout your training routine, with a molded sock liner for cushioning.

With doing FITMOM as well, my old runners were giving me a hard time.  Having a runner that is truly flexible makes a world of difference and my feet don't fee somewhat "constrained" as I can move better and do my workouts more effectively.

Spring is here, get a pair of the RealFlex Transitions $119(or win a pair!), gear up go for a walk or join a CrossFit gym near you.
Your feet will thank you.  If I've inspired you to go to a store and to try/get a pair of Reeboks RealFlex Transitions, I want to hear from you! Share here how they felt and if you love them as much as I do.

This is a rafflecopter giveaway so click on Read More and give it a moment to upload :)

Fit Mom ~ Kicking Butt...

Tuesday, March 27, 2012

My glutes are sore because of yesterdays class I was kicking my arse.
We did a lot of cardio yesterday... and from walking lunges to running to sprinting to running with your knee's high and then running with your feet kicking your butt....I am S-O-R-E.

Andrea loves giving me a hard time but I do love her pushes and well, cardio is one of my weakest faults and I hate it. I also hate my midsection.  But we are not allowed to use negativity. As Andrea said, "We are working towards a goal, don't say hate.."

So as I am ready to pass out and give up and I have to switch to walking with my knee's high up and walking with feet kicking my ass to get moving and I was saying to myself...I guess my mantra:

"Get your ass moving...Do it, do it.."
See the little space between my thighs!

I was thinking of recent pictures of me.  Which is huge motivation. I recently did a carrier review for Tula and I included a video and I liked how my legs were beginning to look.  Then I went to a birthday party over the weekend and saw a more svelte me in the background.  I do have 50pounds(so far I've lost inches) I want to lose but there's nothing like motivation and at last weeks class one of the moms said to me:
"It looks like you've lost some weight!"
Talk about music to my ears and as I was kicking myself in the ass and walking that is what that is what I  was thinking of. Results are coming....

I may feel as though my back is up against the wall as I try to lose weight but it will happen.  I am getting sexy thighs by doing the wall squats.....

Have you checked out FITMOM yet? Her DVD's are wicked.
Next week we'll be sharing more photo's and measurement progress......

Can Kobo Vox Convert a Non-Believer? Here's a review by: Papa Ash

Monday, March 26, 2012

We recently had the pleasure to review the Kobo Vox and I had just the right person in mind for this review.  My husband.
This is Papa Ash's first review and blog post and definitely not his last on Everything Mom and Baby.

                                                        photo from Indigo.ca

The Kobo Vox is also a winner with modern dads!
Get to a Indigo store near you for your eReading needs!

I am the perfect example of someone who loves books. Some people may find this a bit hard to understand (my wife included), but I love my bookshelves full of them, I love the feel of them in my hand and I love finishing one with that slightly self-congratulatory smile. On the bookshelf it goes, and on to the next.

Yes, I am the hardest type of person to sell an eReader to. Yet, just the other day, I found myself extolling the virtues of the Kobo Vox eReader from Indigo Book Store to a fellow literary Luddite, and feeling very passionate about converting them to the 21st Century way. How could this have happened? I was late to CD's (still haven't quite figured MP3 players), cell phones and even email. Two weeks with the Kobo Vox and I'm feeling like I'm finally at the forefront of something big. Here's what I've discovered:
It's as portable and convenient as any book, and more so than some giant hardcovers, and the pages don't get all mussed and bent in my valise. (Okay, more like a man purse).

The back-lighting is a joy. Clipping a light to books is a pain, and the batteries always die at the most inopportune times. Best of all, the glare doesn't bother my wife when she's sleeping (another dubious earmark of my book obsession as far as she's concerned).

The Kobo Vox can hold a WHOLE lot of books without the need of more bookshelves - and it doesn't get any heavier! Certainly anyone who's had to move residences with a copious amount of books knows what I mean.  And apparently not everyone loves having books as the predominant furniture in the house.  Hi honey!
(side note, Mama Ash here...I don't mind all the books! I just wish we had nicer book shelves and room for all them!)

Here's a beautiful bonus that I wasn't really aware of, but it's way cheaper to buy eBooks. Got your attention with that one didn't I. New books especially.  Like I said above, get to an Indigo book store (great kids area too) or order online from Indigo.ca, one of our favorite places to get books and  I do love going to bookstores. Nothing will replace that bookstore smell and spending leisurely time leafing through the fascinating and disparate titles (usually while my wife is at Winners), but heck, you can still buy the books online! And even in the middle of the night! Or on the bus! Or while sitting at the park!

Sometimes when I'm engrossed in a book, a word may come up that I'm unfamiliar with, or have spent many years with a sort of partial, nebulous understanding of (nonplussed anyone?) largely because I haven't been bothered to go find a dictionary and improve my vocabulary. With the Kobo Vox, the definition is a mere touch of the finger away. I like that. It also charts your reading progress in about a million different and unique ways, gives little rewards, and allows you to chat with other like-minded folks. And this is only the tip of the iceberg.

Why just the tip you ask?
Because it is also tablet! As you may have guessed, I am not the most techno-connected person on the planet, but come on! I can go from reading my book to checking emails, to facebook, to surfing the web without moving an inch. Anywhere, anytime. Remember, I am a person who wouldn't walk four steps to grab a dictionary. Neat things just keep popping up everytime I use it.

Will I give up my books altogether? No. But I never thought I'd be trying to convert other book lovers either. The Kobo Vox is the perfect enhancer to the book loving experience!
And by the way, 'nonplussed' means 'completely perplexed'.  I'm no longer nonplussed.

Stay tuned for a giveaway!

A Joy to Share campain with Kinder Canada

Spring is here and around the corner we'll be celebrating Easter with our loved ones and for new families it's a time to start family traditions.  Now that my son is older I can show him how I make Ukrainian Easter Eggs and we can have fun with dyes, decorating and playing.

I also have an easier way for him to design.  At most European markets and I am sure you have a Polish, Ukrainian or Russian market in your city.  You can buy these beautifully decorated sleeves that you put directly on the eggs!  This is something I remember fondly as a little girl and my mom baking Paska in old coffee tins! We celebrate family, love, health and that daylight is back and seeds are to be planted but not everyone is so fortunate so I'd like to tell you about the Joy to Share Program from Kinder.

At Kinder Surprise they proudly support the Children's Miracle Networks and you can too!
When you see Kinder Surprise at the store, you know the bright plush blue rabbit or the plush lamb when you purchase them know that the proceeds go to the Children's Miracle Network!

KINDER® and their ‘A Joy To Share’ campaign, shares experiences shared between mother and child not just around the holidays but all year long.

The ‘A Joy to Share’ campaign is the KINDER® way of bringing joy to families – especially those in need by partnering with the Children’s Miracle network
With Easter around the corner this is a lovely time to teach your children and plant a seed in their mind about helping others and the less fortunate.   We are looking to donate or kinder goodies and I will be purchasing these plush toys and donating them to our local food bank.
You can make an online donation to the Children's Miracle Network here as well {here}

The Real Life Hero's (Read here)

Visit KINDER® Canada Facebook page and hear mothers who have been affected by and have benefited from the work of the Children’s Miracle Network as they will be sharing their heartfelt stories and experiences on their little miracle and brave babies. We encourage you to share your story or someone you know who is a real life hero.

~ May you have a Blessed Easter and share the love and joy with your families this Easter! ~

Mister Rogers Neighbourhood~ "I Give an Expression of Care Everday"

Friday, March 23, 2012

It's really something how you can see a comment on social media, click to a Youtube video and feel such emotion when you see a familiar voice or icon that meant something to you as a child.
This is how I came to write about Mister Rogers.

I had no idea that Mister Rogers would mean so much to me but when I watched this clip talking to Senate Pastore it made my eyes well up with emotion (I guess I have something buried inside of me that I ignore)  Maybe it's the kindness I miss.  Maybe it's the simplicity of what he is speaking of when he speaks of the values and teachings about his show.

He created his show because he hated seeing people throw pie at one another and shows that had pranks that were demeaning to other people.
Cartoons that clobbered others on the head and that people found funny with the violence.  His show was about something special.  Children' s feelings and teaching kids on how to deal with it. Moral I guess you can say.

"What do you do with the mad you feel?" A child asks him and he then creates a song on self control.

Maybe we need to bring back some "old fashioned" values? But how do we do so with the garbage on TV?
Profanity is not bleeped out anymore, malicious slutty behavior is shown on shows for teenagers, reality TV is making people, I don't know what.....
From what we saw growing up times have changed and so forth.  Now it's more so sex and office politics of that nature, violence and lewd behavior. Is there anything good on TV?  Do you limit to what you watch with your kids or what you let your kids watch?

I think something we miss hearing is praise and positivity and maybe this is what got me emotional.
In the clip below he says how he ends the show.  It's powerful and I think every child needs to hear this.

"You've made this day a special day.  By just your being you. There's no person in the world like you and I like you just the way are."

Please watch the below clip, I'd love to hear what you think of this clip where he is awarded the 20,000,000.00 grant to get it on PBS.

Happy Future ~ Made in France and Enter to win!

As you know I am a skin care fanatic...well along with cloth diapers and baby carriers but before baby came I was an esthetician and here is a great line I'd like to tell you about. It's called Happy Future.

I recently had the pleasure to review this line for my son, who has very sensitive skin thanks to his genes...well I guess our genes that we passed on to him.  He is very fair thanks to his Norwegian gene's from his dad.

My son just came to the table seeing his products here and said:

" I like these the best", there you have it. Quite the endorsement from my 3 1/2 yr old!

When I was asked to give this line a try I was excited because I love products from Europe and this being a line from France, I had to try it!
When I got it what I noticed on the packaging right away was it's labellings and that you can see  clearly that it is free of toxic ingredients such as  parabens and free of phenoxyethanol.
This is a purely and true natural line, it is French and it is also made in France and they are making their way to North America.  We are happy to help spread the word on this line.
My son LOVES this line as it doesn't make him itchy. He tells me which products irritate his delicate skin and which one's don't. He's very familiar with skincare because of my back ground in skin care and aromatherapy he gets massaged every night and moisturized almost everyday in the winter.

The products themselves are kinda interesting in the sense of their no-rinse lotion and their nappy care wash.
The Nappy Care Wash

What I like about this wash is even at the age of 3 1/2 yrs I can still use this. You know....# 2's.... We're done with wipes and all I need is a cotton pad, dabble some of this and he's nice and clean because sometimes toilet paper needs a little help.  For Potty training families I think this is very handy to have in the bathroom because as you know things things happen....and this cleans your child delicately and no chemicals!
The Cleansing Lotion ~ No Rinse

Messy hands and face, tuck this in your diaper bag along with some cotton pads/balls or your reusable cloth.  Going camping this summer, or family road trip? Keep this in the car and it's good for you as well it makes cleaning a breeze and sticky fingers be gone!
Light and watery this no rinse cleanser is genius to have. With Meadowood and Rose hydrolate this is hydrating ans soothing and a very gentle cleansing lotion.

Delicate Cleansing Gel

This 2 in 1 Gel gently washes your baby's body and hair.  How sweet would this be to give your newborn it's first bath in this?
It's exceptionally soothing, gentle and has a soft natural scent. Again Meadowood and Rose are the main ingredients and it is completely nut free as well.

Moisturizing Lotion

This is a really nice cream that we enjoy enriched with Aloe Vera. It has a nice natural, kinda like Vanilla Bean and very natural scent.
It goes on light and is easily absorbed.  My son loves this cream as I apply it on his face and all over. Again no itchy skin to bother him when I have to in this cream.  We do love it as well even though I don't care for the scent.  He doesn't mind it and that's what matters.  Come to think of it, since it's completely natural and they don't use anything to mask it's natural smell I think I take back what I said!   I do like the scent ;)

So this line is pure and natural with no toxic ingredients, truly organic and it is also nut free!
This is a high quality skin care line and we have something special to offer you.

You can win this complete set!
(minus the Cleaning Milk)

Reebok Crossfit ~ Where "I can't" becomes "I can" and "I did"!

Thursday, March 22, 2012

When I was asked to give a class at Reebok Corssfit Liberty Village a go I was thinking to myself "NO WAY!"
I saw the commercials and thought no way I can do that!  However I kept watching it and the music got me pumped to go.  I was preparing myself mentally.

After all I am kinda out of shape, thanks to working with FITMOM she is getting my butt in gear and I was nervous (I have 50pds I want to lose) and I was thinking I may not be able to keep up with everyone else.  But then I thought...why am I thinking like this? I am working out and getting healthy. Stay positive.

Well first things first I was super pumped and excited after getting there.   I had the mind set that I can do it.
First we were given awesome Reebok gear.  If you need new runners you have to get Reebok's RealFlex Transition runners! I wear them everywhere and they make working out much better because they are so flexible.  They help promote the natural movement of your feet and you move around so easily.  The comfort in these are crazy!

So after we got in our gear and we all introduced ourselves, everyone was health orientated and I was working out with some fit people!
We met our trainer, Jordan who is the co-owner of the gym, he made me feel so welcome and at ease.
We went through awesome stretches and the exercises before the actual drill.  What was I so afraid of?

Here's the WOD(Work Out of the Day)
The Dirty 30 everything had to be done in 10 minutes....
30 Box jumps, which can be done in 3 ways depending on your fitness level. I had my laying on the lowest "setting"

30 Jumping Pull Ups.  Us gals stood on boxes and jumped and did our chin ups. I loved it!
(No, it's not an S&M chamber, LOL!)

30 Kettlebell Swings.  I so want a kettle bell now!
Works your whole body.
I used the pink ones.
30 Walking LungesWe had to have knee to floor.....hard! Great quad workout.

30 Wall Balls

We had to do a low squat and throw an 8pd balls up to the white marker

and finished with 30 Burpee's!
At the end, I loved the stretching.  It felt like I was getting a massage with these rolling tubes!
I felt victorious at the end and it brought out the child in me.
I used to be able to do this stuff when I was a kid.
I was awesome at sit ups and pull/chin ups. I had to be the last going strong. When we were doing sit ups in gym class I had to be the last to finish, when we were doing chin ups, I remember looking my competitor in the eye and I waited for him to give up before I would. I ran track and field and came in first, many times.  Writing this I had no idea I was so competitive!
I'll never forget back at U of M, we had a competition and I came in first with the running long jump beating the males as well. My teacher, Mr. Theissen was so proud of me.
This was junior high mind you but I could see myself getting competitive again with Cross Fit.

We all finished relatively all at the same time. Even me!  I was sweating up a storm and it felt so good doing the Dirty 30. I left class feeling so good and with a smile.  It was such a wonderful experience and we all had a good time. I highly, highly recommend it.  Please check it out.
The next day I was sore. Today I am feeling a little better but I also did FITMOM yesterday! I am a workout power horse!  I love it, I love it, I love it!!  It is such a good feeling.  Find a CrossFit gym near you!
I want to be fit and healthy for my kids and chase them around without being winded. I want my kids to remember me being active not being the one sitting and watching them play without me.  Life is too short.

Tula Baby Carrier ~ A new SSC from Poland #Babywearing

Wednesday, March 21, 2012

At Everything Mom and Baby we love baby carriers and we research, follow and know what's new and awesome when it comes to baby carriers.

Today I'd like to introduce to you Tula Baby Carriers.
Tula Baby carriers are designed and manufactured in Poland and there's actually a sweet story as to how Tula Baby came about.  Read it {here}
Tula makes wraps, reversible mei tai' s and soft structured carriersTula Baby carriers can be worn with infants as well.  The infant insert is sold separately and the infant insert includes an integrated harness, which attaches to carrier and has a velcro attachment, which secures your baby to the insert.

I first came across Tula carriers when I saw them post on Kowalli's facebook page and being the baby carrier obsessed mom that I am I visited their website.  I loved the designs and simplicity of it and the Poland connection to my family as my babcia is from Poland.  So being part Polish and Ukrainian I had to pick the Matryoshka carrier as I played with those little dolls when I was just a little girl back home in Winnipeg.

When I received my carrier, I got the Toddler version which is quite bigger than the standard Tula version.
Standard Measurements: Panel: 39 cm tall & 37 cm wide Toddler Measurements: Panel: 45 cm (18") tall & 48 cm  (19") wide
 First impressions:
  • Nice packaging
  • Comes with a hood
  • Cute little pocket at the base on the waist belt
  • Breastfeeding friendy
  • Extremely comfortable and great support distribution. For me and my child.
  • When I took the carrier out of the box I loved the quality.  Soft high quality and 100% cotton with Öko-Tex Standard 100
  • Padded features on either side of the carrier panel for extra comfort for the child being carried
  • Medium/thin width of the straps with extra padding for extra comfort for the parent
  • Fabulous prints
  • Easy to use, front and back carry option
  • Proper ergonomic "M" position.  The child's knees are slightly higher than the hips
  • Fits petite to plus size as the waist belt can be as small 30inches to as large as 60 inches (measured across from clasp to buckle)
  • Arm straps don't dig in and on the smallest setting measures 11inches(around) and can be loosened to 45 inches.  So there's lots of room for all body types.
Carrying Comfort and why we LOVE Tula:
Because I have the toddler version it has a nice wide panel and height so he has ample back support and coverage for a secure and safe fit.
I love the Free to Grow leg extensions (sold separately).  Something I've never seen in a carrier company, which you could use on their standard baby carrier as well.  I love my Tula as it has a chest belt to make back carrying easier, my son loves being carried in it and it's so comfortable, easy, convenient to use and I love the padding on the legs.   Baby carriers are such an essential product to have.  Getting around the city like Toronto makes life much easier.
Leave the car seat where it belongs!  In the car and carry baby in a carrier.  Why lug it around?  With baby wearing you can travel public transportation much easier and you don't have to avoid rush hour traffic when going on the bus or subway.  I don't know where I'd be if carriers didn't exist.

Here I am with my friends daughter who is 19 months in my Tula Toddler in the front carry position.

Here's my video with my son talking more about the carrier and it's features and doing a back carry.

You can use your Tula carrier year round.  It's easy to use and can be worn in two positions.
    Front & Back.
The only 2 cons about the Tula is you can't do a hip carry and the straps don't criss cross when you choose to do a front carry.
It fits all body types and the arm straps don't dig... Hoorah!

I had a friend try on the sample piece, the standard size(the one up for grabs!) of the Tula Baby, smaller than my Toddler Tula.
    Here are her words:
"Cuddly and love. I felt a better hip distribution instantly and found it very comfortable.   Baby Hazel is also much happier. "
By "M" position I am referring from the left leg, starting at the foot going up to the knee and then back down to the derriere and than up again to the right knee and then back down to the leg to the foot so it's like a letter "M".  Therefore better for the child being carried as hip and spine are properly aligned.
