We just got back from vacation. What a great vacation it was as I was working with Ford Canada on reviewing their Ford Flex so we booked the week at two resorts to also celebrate my husband’s birthday. One at Blue Mountain Resort and the other at Severn Lodge. Two very different experiences-two very different vibes. Today’s post will be all about Blue Mountain. Such a great resort!
This was our first time visiting Blue Mountain. It’s a nice drive from the GTA which took us just over an hour and half. The clouds were rolling in and we were thinking “Oh great….rain!”. Well, it spat for a few minutes as we checked in. I found checking in a little tricky as I didn’t exactly see an “All Season’s” check in so we went to the Blue Mountain Inn and someone kindly showed us the way. We got to our room and were blown away. It was a 2 bedroom villa(that can sleep 6) with a pull out couch, fireplace, 2 bathrooms and kitchen. It was perfect for our family of 5. Plus we had a corner suite. If you are looking to book, get a corner suite. I loved that we were in the middle of all the action. We had the perfect view at All Season’s Blue. The kitchen was stocked with cutlery, pots and pans, a coffee maker and microwave. Everything you need. There is a Village Market where you can pick up some groceries but I recommend going into Collingwood, which is a 10 minute drive to the 24 Metro. There is no LCBO on site, so if you’d like a bottle wine, you have to drive into town. The kids didn’t want to leave. “Can we live here Mama?” There’s so much to do once you park the car. It’s definitely a great action packed resort to vacation to. There are camps where you can drop kids off too but we didn’t bother and they do offer babysitter services. You can book spa packages, activity packages and even meal packages. I wish we had time to visit the Blue Mountain beach which is just a free shuttle ride away. I guess we’ll have to come back.
After a little walk around we went to Rusty’s for dinner. Service was friendly, food was fine. Reasonably priced for families. Because we had the best view in town(in my humble opinion) the kids were able to join in the pajama party on our balcony and watch the Minion movie that was being played on the big screen in the middle of the village. So great for kids! I was impressed as well that when you close the sliding the door you don’t hear a thing outside.
We had a beautiful outdoor pool and hot tub. WIFI does cost extra though and if you need a playpen you can get one for an additional $10.
Rainy day at Blue Mountain! What to do?
There was a great games room which I recommend for rainy days or the craft place next door called Crock a Doodle if you are there for a couple of days as your pottery will be ready the next day at 4pm or you can opt to have it shipped to you. On the next day it rained all day! I didn’t pack any rain gear so I went shopping! I was happy to see they have a Hatley store there and a 50% off sale so the kids got new rain jackets, new rain boots and I returned with all the rain gear and said “Let’s go jump in muddy puddles, like Peppa!” The twins had a blast.
Because Blue Mountain Resort is based on outdoor activities, I kinda wish they had plans for kids camp wise on rainy days. I would say that is my only complaint. When it’s raining there is not much to do. But I did found the Games Room, we coloured, we watched the Olympics and we made the most of it by splashing about. My husband sat back at the villa and relaxed, enjoying the peace and quiet when we played in the rain.
There are many places to eat while visiting Blue Mountain. You can check out the many restaurants there or drive into Collingwood.
The rain was off and on and it was getting close to dinner time so we went to Copper Blues Bar and Grill. We went there because they advertised Kids Eat 1/2 Price! So we thought great. We walk in and there’s like 4 girls at the front, dressed in black and not one smiled as we came in,lol. Our server was fine but quick and curt. They want you in and out swiftly. That’s what it felt it like at Coppers Blue. I just ordered a French Onion soup which was good, my husband got a salad and out we were. My son had a burger and the twins shared pasta, you can’t for wrong when it’s half price. Although I didn’t want to eat a full meal there because of how we felt- it was not welcoming. So we grabbed a pizza at the Firehall Pizza which was excellent! Smiles, great service and we took it back to our room. I hung out waiting and enjoyed a pint and my husband took the kids to the playground which is located right behind.
Hurray for Sun!
Of course the day we leave the weather is fabulous! I inquired about a late check out which was done with ease. My son was devastated that we couldn’t do any of the activities the day before. I mean, that was the whole reason we booked at Blue Mountain so thankfully the sun was out! Everything starts at 10am so I made breakfast, packed up and off we went. I did love that the suite had a kitchen. If we stayed longer I would have been making dinner as well. We left dad and the twins and off we went for some quality, Mom and Son time. My son had always wanted to rock climb so he did that, we went on the Open Air Gondola and went for a nice little morning hike, we went on the Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster-OMG! So fun and terrifying!!!! It was a morning of action packed fun and that is what makes Great Blue Mountain so great. There is so much to do when the weather is on your side.
There is nothing but fun when you’re at Blue Mountain Resort. It is great for all ages with so many outdoor activities to do. I love that memories were created here. We had a comfy sleep, I loved our room and the experience was great. If you are thinking about visiting Blue Mountain, you won’t be disappointed. We got started on the activities at 10am so the line up’s were not bad at all. In fact, we breezed right by. A room like ours runs $407/per night depending on day and season and activities are priced Adult/Children so $16 for adults and $13 for kids per activity. You can find deals on their site and I hope we can go back for some tubing, skiing and skating in the winter. Shopping, food, activities and play is at your fingertips.
