Since turning 40……

Some things have been on my mind since turning 40 and I keep seeing things in media that I often wonder if it’s a sign.  But when turning 40, things DO change….Right?! Ugh!   There’s perimenopause, weight loss is stubborn, our hearing may change,  you may even become a mother for the first time at 40 and then there’s osteoporosis.   I wish I had a crystal ball to see what lies ahead with my health.

It’s suggested to get screened at 40 if you are at an increased risk and certain medications can cause low bone density. These are things I’ve never given much thought of as I am the last to take care of myself.  How about you? What are some other things to consider to live healthier at 40?  I chatted with my sister, a nurse and these are her suggestions.

      I’m signing up for Pop Physique, a barre class and yoga NOW that I have the time.
      This is my year to get my sh*t together. As a mother now, I get the odd panic attack of how I need to be healthy for my kids so I am there ’til the bitter end. #truth

    I totally agree that every year and decade, I experience changes not only on the physical (which is very obvious but also in my outlook and how I take things. I find that getting older I become more tolerant and patient for one.

    I recently turned 47. When I turned 40 I felt like I entered a new me in life. I suddenly didn’t mind pictures being taken and didn’t care there were wrinkles and grey hair.

    But, 50 is not far..and those lines have deepened…and the grey hair as multiplied like dirty laundry…I think differently and feel differently about things… ah yes.. my Mom was right… wisdom absolutely comes with age.

    I am quickly approaching 40. I hear my mothers voice come out of my mouth more often than I care to admit and the gray hairs are slowly taking over. I struggle with swallowing pills so tend to put off taking supplements but it’s probably time to force myself to do it regularly.

    I consider myself very lucky to have strong bones as proven when I fell down a flight of concrete stairs knocking myself unconscious and scraping the skin off the front of my shins. Stitches weren’t needed as the skin was gone. An MRI scan showed no broken bones, which was a miracle. A friend fell down only 3 carpeted stairs and broke both ankles, another fell up the stairs and fractured the head of her humerus, yet another sleep on dog poo in a field whilst out walking her own dog and fractured her hip! I can only advise everyone to make sure they get enough calcium in their diet and take supplements when needed.

    I just turned 40 this year too & the calcium factor is huge. My grandma had osteoporosis, my mom is at risk for it & has been taking calcium for years, and now it’s my turn to get on board for my health.
