Mister Rogers Neighbourhood~ “I Give an Expression of Care Everday”

It’s really something how you can see a comment on social media, click to a Youtube video and feel such emotion when you see a familiar voice or icon that meant something to you as a child.
This is how I came to write about Mister Rogers.

I had no idea that Mister Rogers would mean so much to me but when I watched this clip talking to Senate Pastore it made my eyes well up with emotion (I guess I have something buried inside of me that I ignore)  Maybe it’s the kindness I miss.  Maybe it’s the simplicity of what he is speaking of when he speaks of the values and teachings about his show.

He created his show because he hated seeing people throw pie at one another and shows that had pranks that were demeaning to other people.
Cartoons that clobbered others on the head and that people found funny with the violence.  His show was about something special.  Children’ s feelings and teaching kids on how to deal with it. Moral I guess you can say.

“What do you do with the mad you feel?” A child asks him and he then creates a song on self control.

Maybe we need to bring back some “old fashioned” values? But how do we do so with the garbage on TV?
Profanity is not bleeped out anymore, malicious slutty behavior is shown on shows for teenagers, reality TV is making people, I don’t know what…..
From what we saw growing up times have changed and so forth.  Now it’s more so sex and office politics of that nature, violence and lewd behavior. Is there anything good on TV?  Do you limit to what you watch with your kids or what you let your kids watch?

I think something we miss hearing is praise and positivity and maybe this is what got me emotional.
In the clip below he says how he ends the show.  It’s powerful and I think every child needs to hear this.

“You’ve made this day a special day.  By just your being you. There’s no person in the world like you and I like you just the way are.”
Please watch the below clip, I’d love to hear what you think of this clip where he is awarded the 20,000,000.00 grant to get it on PBS.

    He was a special guy.
