Tomorrow is a PA day here in Toronto so why not make the most of it and have some old school fun playing board games and turn off the WIFI! Plus it’s going to be pretty chilly this weekend and hello to Friday night Game night. Mattel shared this video with me and I wanted to share with you too. Maybe it’ll inspire you to pull out some games tonight.
I have fond memories as a kid playing Uno, Snakes and Ladders and Monopoly just to name a few and my stepmother is very much into board games too and that has sparked an interest with the kids as my family never played board games(maybe it’s an Eastern European thing?) my parents never had board games when they were kids in Ukraine. We recently received some new games to check out from Mattel and the twins can’t wait to play another round of Blokus with Nana.

What day is it? What time is it? We’re in the after Christmas lull and that’s just fine. I’ve been sick leading up to Christmas, my cough is almost gone so it’s time to get out of the funk, reconnect and gather friends and our kids for some good ‘ol gaming! . We can’t wait to dive into them. Which one should we play first? Blokus? Which is your favorite? . Now, can I tear my son away from FortNite? 😆 . . . #giftedproduct #games #boardgames #family #newyearsfun #friendsandfamily #blokus #balderdash #applestoapples #pictionary #mattel #boardgame

If you’re following me on insta you’ll know Blokus has been a number hit with my kids. Blokus is such a fun game and it’s a strategy board game that challenges spatial thinking. Blokus has even received a Mensa award for promoting healthy brain activity! The goal of this game is for players to fit all of their pieces onto the board. My twins are 5 1/2 yrs old and they love it.
My husband is a Balderdash guy and it’s a game we play most often in a group. It’s always fun and engaging, you can’t go wrong when you make up phony answers and read them off along with the correct answer, and others vote on which answer is real. We’ve come up with some funny stuff. I love it. Next time we have friends over though I’d like to give Pictionary a go. It’s a game I haven’t played in ages! I could even see my son enjoying Pictionary and he is getting more and more into board games. Especially when his WIFI mysteriously turns off 😉
Apples to Apples is a new game that we’ve played. They say it’s a party in a tin and it’s good ol’ fashioned ‘clean fun and it sparks creativity. We’ve had a few laughs so when Nana comes next weekend my son will want to play this with all of us.
All you have to do is just open the tin, deal the cards, and you’re ready. Pick a card from your hand that you think is best described by a card played by the judge. If the judge picks your card, you win that round. And everyone gets a chance to be the judge. It gets really funny.
Do you play board games? What are your favourites? I am always looking for new games to add to our collection.
