A relaxing summer weekend at The Red Umbrella Inn #myHaliburtonHighlands #ComeWander

With all the resorts we’ve been to, I wanted to share with you another family-friendly Inn, located in beautiful Minden, Ontario called The Red Umbrella Inn.  You may recall my Instastories and posts on social media as we promoted the area.  It’s such a lovely property here,  just about 2 1/2 hours roughly from Toronto, hop on the 404 and discover the beauty of the Haliburton Highlands.

SunsetinHaliburtonI can’t resist a beautiful sunset on the 12 mile lake.

Red Umbrella Inn is located on the 12 mile Lake and a short drive from the town of Minden where you can grab a tube and float down the river(lots do!) or drive 20 minutes and pop into the cute and quaint town of Haliburton.  The lake at Red Umbrella was beautiful!  It was so warm and just simply a great place to spend your summer.  It’s quieter than at the busy family all inclusive across Ontario so if you’re looking for some family time, a lake view property, amazing food and friendly staff, you’re going to love Red Umbrella Inn.  It’s also open year-round and a great place to host corporate events, weddings, celebrations or even yoga retreats.  They are even a short drive from Boshkung Brewery and you have to visit the Minden Wild Water Preserve for some beautiful rapids.

Lakeview Rooms:  These rooms are just steps away from the main inn and lounge. Cozy and decorated with a charming country feel. All have wood fireplace, a bar fridge, T.V. and four piece bath. Enjoy the view of Twelve Mile Lake from inside your room or outside on the spacious deck.

We rented out the Lakeside Cottage($350 a night, $1500/weekly)), have a tour of {here}.  There are three Lakeside cottages that come in a variety of arrangements to suit your personal needs. All three of the lakeside cottages have a king size bed, 2 twin beds and 2 bathrooms. All cottages also have separate sitting areas facing the lake as well as bar fridges and coffee makers.  Just outside our cottage, there are stone steps that lead you into the shallow water.

There are complimentary canoes & paddle boats available for guests and local marinas close by that offer Pontoon boats and Sea-Doos for rental. There is free Wifi high-speed internet in the lobby and lounge.

a little family fun playing badminton, horseshoes and monkey in the middle

Watch TV, play on the PS4, kids can play board games, darts(for adults)  and pick a book out or do some colouring

love the new edition of foosball in the main lounge

Don’t feel like cooking? No worries!  Order a delicious meal at the lodge. Mike the GM is also the chef here and his food is DELICIOUS!
IMG_20180714_192819This spinach dip was everything! The best I ever had when dining.  Ok, the one at Earls in Winnipeg was pretty good too.

Need I say more? We love coming to the Red Umbrella Inn, it’s such a gem.

We spent many lazy days sitting by the water, the little beach is perfect for kids.  I loved canoeing and then we went tubing!  For a small fee, Mike will take you out for a spin on the boat and take the kids tubing.

The Minden Wild Water Preserve is stunning!  There’s even a little beach.

Simply stunning. The Red Umbrella Inn is close to so many gems found in Haliburton,  it has a place in my heart.

IMG_20180716_113046Ah, since writing this post I want to go back and explore more of the area, I want to leave the city and slow down.  I hope you’ll check out Red Umbrella Inn, you’ll love cottaging here, you’ll love the water, fresh air and the laid-back attitude in the highlands.
