“Every day is a new adventure at YMCA Day Camps”

If this is your first time sending your kids off to camp you may be wondering what to send them off with:

  • Pack a lunch-pack a thermal lunch bag with two ice packs for lunch and peanut free snacks. Litterless packaging would be ideal.
  • Back Pack to store it all in
  • Refillable Water Bottle
  • Hat and sunscreen
  • Swimsuit
  • Tissues or reusable handkerchiefs
  • Meds in case they are taking any, have the form filled out.
  • Sunglasses
  • Don’t forget to label!

What not to bring?

Electronics, jewellery, toys etc…

Oh no!  We’re running late for camp drop off!
Late arrivals to camp are accommodated but can be very disruptive to the camp day, especially since the absent camper call goes out shortly after the day begins, swimming may happen at any point of the day and maybe off-site, some sites take nature walks and may be out on a trail, etc. If it can be avoided, that is ideal.

If not possible to be avoided, camp staff will welcome the family, locate the camper’s camper group, and deliver the camper there to begin their day of fun! If their camp group is out of range for easy delivery of the camper, we’ll match the camper’s interest to a group that is in range and place them there until their group arrives back

Did you know The Y also offers extended care?

The YMCA offers extended hours locations across the GTA that may open as early as 7:00 AM and end as late as 6:00 PM. Find out if your bus stop or camp location has extended hour options by clicking here.

Did I miss anything?  What do you pack for your kids camp? Still thinking about registering? Head over to my first post to learn more about YMCA of Greater Toronto.  There’s still room!

I had no idea the Y had so many services. Day camps and extended care are two great options for parents who have to work all day, and it helps keeps the kids happy and engaged, too.

Yes! Also my sanity as a SAHM 😉

My daughter is actually doing a YMCA Day Camp this week! She’s taking an art class. She’s been doing the summer camps for years and loves them.

  3. Ann F. Snook-Moreau | 23rd Jul 18

I didn’t know that the Y did summer camps! I love how varied the programs are so there is something for every kid. If I had kids I would definitely send them to one of these camps!

  4. Sarah Bailey | 23rd Jul 18

I have to admit I didn’t know there were summer camps done by the YMCA how awesome does this sound like it would be! Great way to spend some of the summer.

I can’t tell you how often we forget towels-kind of crazy but I appreciate this helpful list. Definitely agree that we have to label everything.

  6. Heather | 23rd Jul 18

YMCA camps sound awesome. My kids have done a few day camps this summer. We always pack everything we need the night before and definitely make sure we read everything on any lists given to us for what to bring.

I used to go to the YMCA when I was a kid. I would love to take my kids to one.

  8. Marysa | 23rd Jul 18

I have heard so many good things about the Y camps. My daughters friends go every year, and it sounds like a lot of fun. There is a cool travel Y at our local YMCA that is very popular.

I want my kids to join in that kind of activity to build their ability to communicate well and being independent. And those are nice tips for new moms whose first time to send their kids in it

I remember going to a YMCA camp when I was younger but it was a week sleep away one. I wasn’t too keen on it at first but then I didn’t want to leave. Its such a good organization.

THe YMCA day camps around here are pretty popular. They are one of the only daycare options for older kids. They cost a fortune though.

    • Mama Ash | 24th Jul 18

How much is it in Chicago? Here in Toronto, it’s about $235 for 5 days. All day.

  12. rika | 24th Jul 18

Sounds like a great summer camp program! My son and daughter are currently attending the summer camp at their school. I will definitely check out my local YMCA for next summer break.

  13. Sara Welch | 24th Jul 18

You nailed this list! You can’t go without this stuff!

  14. Kita Bryant | 24th Jul 18

That sounds like a really fun day. The list is perfect for a day outside!

I used to go to the YMCA every day to workout for a few years in a row. I witnessed the wonderful work they do with kids and got to know some of the dedicated staff who focused on the camps and after school activities. Great organization! Unfortunately, we moved to a location where it is too far to be convenient to go to the YMCA anymore. Miss going there though

  16. Nancy at Whispered Inspirations | 25th Jul 18

I used to go to the YMCA so much when I was a kid. They have such great programs for kids. I will have to check out their camps too. Thanks for the recco!

  17. Bianca Dottin | 27th Jul 18

We have a few YMCA location near us. I never even considered looking there for summer camps. Thanks for the suggestion!

  18. Aduke Schulist | 27th Jul 18

I live in a small town that does not have YMCA, or really anything similar. It’s quite a drive to get to anything like it, but they offer similar things, minus the extended care.
